FUN FACTS
Some typical calculations we are focusing on is that if you were to recycle a ream (500 sheets) of paper, that itself would save 6% of a tree. The average business uses about one pound of paper per day per employee. That’s amazing!! These numbers would add up fairly quickly. If we think bigger numbers and recycle a ton of recycled paper (400 reams/200,000 pieces of paper), that itself would save 17 trees. Of of this one ton of recycled paper, it would also save 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, 58% water savings and 60lbs less air pollution. Those 17 trees that you save by recycling can absorb a total of 250 lbs of carbon dioxide from the air each year. If you burn that same ton of paper
it would create 1500 lbs of carbon dioxide. Now that’s how we could benefit from going green.
